An Intimate Wedding at Banters Ice Cream Shop and The Distillery Venue: Rainy April Romance in Abbotsford, BC

A Rainy, Intimate Wedding at The Distillery Venue in Abbotsford, BC

When Em and Ian decided to get married they knew they wanted something truly special—something intimate, meaningful, and filled with joy. Surrounded by a small group of family and friends, their day was a perfect blend of laughter, love, and unique moments that captured the essence of their relationship. Despite the rain, nothing could dampen the excitement and beauty of their wedding day.

Em and Ian’s Sweet Ice Cream Stop at Banters Before the Wedding Ceremony

The morning of their wedding was filled with quiet excitement as they prepared for the day ahead. Before heading to The Distillery Venue, Em and Ian made a sweet detour to Banter’s Ice Cream. Surrounded by the quaint charm of this beloved local Ice Cream Shop, the couple laughed as they attempted to enjoy their ice cream together, without spilling. Despite the rain they embraced every moment together and their carefree smiles spoke volumes about the genuine connection they share.

The Distillery Venue: A Beautiful Setting for Their Vows

As the rain drummed on the roof of The Distillery Venue, they stood together before their closest family and friends. In this intimate setting, they exchanged heartfelt vows expressing promises of love and support to each other. The emotions of the day were felt by everyone, as they made their commitment to each other, their families and friends smiles as bright as the love these two share.

Rainy Wedding Portraits: Capturing Love

Even though the rain was steady on and off through out the day, we embraced the wet weather and took portraits outside. RIP Umbrellas, I lost 3 that day due to the wind! Later in the evening with the help of some off-camera flash techniques, I was able to create some dramatic images that highlighted the beauty of what we endearingly now refer to as ‘atmospheric rain’. However, the rain only added to the celebration of Em and Ian, making their portraits even more memorable.

A Night of Laughter and Dancing: Celebrating Love with Friends and Family

After their heartfelt vows, it was time to celebrate. The couple invited their guests to share in a casual yet delicious meal of appetizers, pizza and the most amazingly delicious pastries catered from The Table Bistro in Abbotsford, BC. The laughter and chatter filled the air as everyone enjoyed the laid-back atmosphere, savoring the flavors of a wedding celebration that was both meaningful and fun. The night ended with plenty of laughter, dancing, and love on the dance floor. Em and Ian and their guests embraced the joy of the evening, creating unforgettable memories of shared moments and celebrations. Their wedding party and close friends were even up to creating a Vogue style group photo which led to much laughter as they all tried to give their best vogue inspired pose! It was the perfect end to an intimate and unforgettable wedding day at The Distillery Venue.

A Romantic Backyard Wedding in Aldergrove, BC

When I first met Katelyn and Robert for coffee, almost a year ago now, to discuss their wedding photography vision, I was a ball of nerves but honestly I had zero reason to be! These two are the kindest most laid back couple ever and their main goal was for the guests to feel comfortable and have fun! We had such an amazing time at their engagement session earlier this Spring in the gorgeous Cherry Blossoms at Queen Elizabeth Park, just like Robert’s parents did many years ago, that I knew their wedding day would be nothing short of perfect and exactly as they had described.

Truly there is really no place like home. From your own childhood backyard, to your grandparents to your Great Uncle Joe, planning a backyard wedding is an amazing idea!

Top 5 Benefits to having a Backyard Wedding:

  1. Your Fur Babies can Attend- no hassle, no deposits, no travel and no babysitter needed!

  2. Dates are Flexible- complete and utter freedom when booking and no venue deposit is needed.

  3. Guest List- you can have as few of your closest friends and family, or invite your entire graduating class- just remember though, unless your parent’s backyard is the size of a couple football fields, space may be an issue!

  4. Finances- while saving on venue costs don’t forget to have a back up rain plan and rent a large tent to host all your guests, you don’t want to have to delegate out who is going to hold hold the umbrella over grandma while she eats her dinner.

  5. All the Feels- Simply getting ready and saying I do’s to the person of your dreams in the same back yard you played in as a child just can’t be beat. Everyone always seems to have so much fun at backyard weddings- and there truly is no place like home.

When I met up with Katelyn the morning of her wedding she was so relaxed and confident- there was zero nerves- just confidence about marrying the love of her life. We quickly whisked off to Campbell Valley Park for her and Robert’s first look and it took everything in my power to not start crying at Robert’s reaction to seeing Katelyn for the first time on their wedding day. These two are so in love.

Robert’s parents home was both the ceremony and reception location and the amount of work they put into their property to make it absolutely perfect for this love filled day, did not go unnoticed. Can you believe that their parents did all the decor themselves?! Robert’s mom grew all the flowers in their backyard and Katelyn’s mom put together all the Bouquets for the day! Robert and Katelyn had Growlers designed as wedding favours and brewed all the beer for the day. The whole day was filled with love and laughter surrounded by family and friends- exactly as Robert and Katelyn wanted.

Congratulations Robert and Katelyn!

Abbotsford Wedding Photographer | Bakerview Mennonite Brethren Church & Eighteen Pastures Golf Course, Mission, BC | Emilia & Andy |

When I first met Emilia and Andy for their engagement session earlier this year in Chilliwack, BC they came across as this quite and sweet couple. Never in a million years did I expect to laugh as loud and as hard as I did while photographing their wedding this past Friday afternoon. I met up with them shortly before they said their wedding vows at the gorgeous Bakerview Mennonite Brethren Church in Abbotsford, BC. After the ceremony we headed off to Eighteen Pastures in Mission, BC where we spent the afternoon exploring the grounds by Golf Cart. Had I not been holding on for dear life during our Golf Cart adventures I likely would have taken some video footage, but alas keeping myself and my camera safely in the almost sideways Golf Cart was the priority, trust me though, it was hilarious! Here is a sneak peak of their wedding day.

Emilia was absolutely stunning and Andy couldn’t stop staring at her all day. Their day was filled with so much love AND laughter and I couldn’t have imagined a better day for them to celebrate their love and devotion for each other. Congratulations Emilia and Andy!

Oh my word friends… wedding season is off with a BANG. Here is a sneak peak into Rebekah and Levi’s gorgeous wedding day last Friday. We started off with the gorgeous couple getting ready in Abbotsford, BC and then off to Aldergrove Regional Park for a first look and wedding party portraits. Rebekah was stunning and I could truly feel the deep love and connection they have for each other throughout the day. They said their wedding vows at Aldergrove Reformed Church where we stayed for a fun filled night filled with moving speeches and hilarious games planned out by family and friends. Wishing you both a lifetime of happiness.
